When most people think of pizza night they break out the menus and fight over toppings, not in our house.
My pizza starts with
2 cups whole wheat flour
2 tablespoons of dry active yeast or I packet.
1 cup very warm ( almost hot) water to bloom yeast
1 tablespoon of white sugar you can use honey if you prefer it.
1 1/2 tablespoons garlic powder
1 tsp salt or to taste
White or black pepper 1/2 teaspoon
Fresh or dry herbs of your choice. Italian seasoning or pizza seasoning israel both a nice blend
Pesto
Fresh basil about a cup to a cup and a half
Spinach about 2 cups
Salted almonds
4-5 garlic cloves
Salt and pepper to taste
Extra virgin olive oil
Take all that for a whirl in the food processor
Toppings
I use 1 green bell pepper
1 red bell pepper
1 medium yellow onion
1 cup white mushrooms
1 cup veggie pepperoni
1 package of veggie patch meatless balls
Chef Boyardi pizza sauce
Shredded cheese I use mozzarella and monty jack
To put the crust together put all dry ingredients in a bowl together except yeast. Put the yeast in the warm water and stir well, let this sit for about 10 minutes. Once yeast water gets foamy pour it into the dry ingredients and dig your hands in and mix well. Dust your counter with some flour and knead the dough until it is firm and springs back when you push your finger on it lightly. Coat a bowl with olive oil and put the dough in it. Roll to coat with oil, cover with a towel and let sit on top of the stove until double in size. While the dough is rising this is when you can get your toppings ready. I like a small chop on all of my veggies but do what suits you best. Once dough has risen punch it down and place on floured surface, roll it to the size of your baking pan And spread the pesto put on the veggies and add the pizza sauce and meatballs. Sprinkle the cheese and then back in a 375 degree Fahrenheit oven for about 10-15 minutes. You will be so happy that you made your own pizza it tastes great and make the whole house smell good. Those of you with kids, let them help put the toppings on. This is a good way to get kids to try new foods. For more specific details on this recipe please email me at alesia.leach@gmail.com
