Blackberry Tart

Sunday is my day to make a nice breakfast and today is my whole wheat blackberry tart

Crust
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup wheat bran
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon each
Salt
Cinnamon
Moroccan 7 spice ( you can use some clove and nutmeg 1/4 teaspoon each )

1/3 cup butter cut into to cubes and kept very cold

Ice water 3-6 tablespoons

Now the easy part
Take a pastry cutter and cut in the butter until the flour mixture looks like course bread crumbs ( if you don't have a pastry cutter use two butter knives and pull them through the mixture in opposite direction until you achieve the same consistency)
Add water and mix until the mixture forms a tight ball
Dust your prep surface with some flour and knead the dough ten to twelve times to make the dough smooth then wrap in plastic and place in the fridge while you prepare the filling

Filling
1 pint berry of your choice. I am using black berries today
1 handful of salted almonds chopped you can use any tree nut that you want or even peanuts it really depends on your taste and what your family likes.
1/3 cup ocean spray craisins
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon lemon or line juice what ever you prefer you can even use orange juice in a pinch
1/4 teaspoon of salt or less. Just a pinch to enhance the favors in the filling.

Remove dough from fridge and place on floured surface and cut in half. Roll each price out to about 1/4 thickness and place in the center of a sheet pan place filling in center of dough and fold sides up to contain and brush with a beaten egg sprinkle with some cinnamon and sugar and bake at 375 degrees farenhieght for 25-30 minutes

I know baking can be a little intimidating for some but my advice is make sure that everything is measured as exact as possible because baking is really just chemistry, a reaction between the ingredients to make a master piece. This is one of my families favorites an it is not too bad for them so I don't mind serving it once and a while.
