Split Pea Soup with Lamb

Soup is one of my favorite foods to make because it is so simple and had deep rich flavors that are comforting to the soul with every spoon full.

2 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion minced
3 cloves garlic minced
1 red bell pepper minced
1 Medium turnip cubed
5 potatoes cubed
5 carrots chopped
3 bay leaves
5 pieces of lamb (I like to use the "flavor pieces")
2 tablespoons of house seasoning. (this can be any blend of spices that your family likes or you can find my recipe for ras el hanout)
1 1lb bag of split green peas
1 can tomato sauce
8 cups of water
1 chicken bullion cube
Salt and pepper to taste

add the olive oil to a large stock pot over medium heat. Add the onions and peppers to the pot. Let this cook for a few minutes then add the garlic. Add the spices to the lamb pieces and then add the lamb to the pot. Let this cook for about 5 minutes then add the carrots, potatoes and turnip. Let this cook for another 5 minutes then add the split green peas, tomato sauce, water, bullion cube and bay leaves. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 30-40 minutes or until the vegetables and peas are tender. For more on this recipe or any others please email me at alesia.leach@gmail.com
